Our Story
Safari Guide’s Camps
Zebra Plains Collection of camps was founded by Alfred Korir in 2016.He is a professional safari guide. After safari guiding for several years and also managing some Africa’s finest lodges in Kenya and Tanzania Alfred decided to start his own safari camps so that he can offer his guests the best of Maasai Mara where he was brought up by his father who worked in Mara for almost two decades as a chef in one of the lodges in Mara. It is his father who introduced him to Mara at his very early age of 10 years.
Alfred is considered as one of the best guides in Mara having second highest level of guiding in Kenya Silver, from KPSGA and also FGASA L2 and Dangerous game guiding (DG) qualifications from South Africa. When he is not on safari or hosting Alfred is often found busy making his camps looks better, he loves improving all the camps all the time. Alfred’s designed, managed construction and did all decors of all the camps, he seems to have learned all this from previous places of work and extensive travels in East and Southern African Countries.
Community Owned Camps
When he started Zebra Plains Mara Camp in 2016 Alfred’s relationship with community developed positively as his camps are only operated on community land bordering Maasai Mara Game Reserve, where land owners have direct benefits and also, he employs 70% of the locals in all the camps. In 2022 he was invited by Maasai landowners to go and take over one of their camps that had closed down for several years, Alfred accepted the offer and he bought their camp from an investor who owned the camp. In 2023 he demolished the old camp that had over 40 rooms, and built Zebra River Camp with 16 rooms and Little Zebra River Camp with 10 rooms that both sits on the beautiful bends of Talek river on a private 500 Acres community land overlooking the Main Reserve.
